The Minister of Communication and Information Technology (Menkominfo) Johnny G Plate made his way to the Kejaksaan Agung (Kejagung) building in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, to be questioned as a witness in a corruption case related to the allocation of 4G base transceiver station (BTS) infrastructure and supporting infrastructure packages 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 by the Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (Bakti) under the Ministry of Communication and Information for the years 2020 to 2022. Johnny G Plate arrived at the questioning building at approximately 08:45 AM, dressed in a brown batik shirt and black pants, carrying a folder. He chose not to engage with the media and proceeded directly into the building. This marked the Minister of Communication and Information’s second round of questioning by Kejagung investigators regarding alleged corruption within his ministry. During this session, Johnny G Plate was treated as a witness. Kuntadi, the Director of Investigation of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Dirdik Jampidsus) of Kejagung, disclosed that the investigation would delve into various aspects of Johnny G Plate’s involvement, including the privileges extended to his brother, Gregorius Alex Plate (GAP). The focus of the inquiry will also encompass his responsibilities as a supervisor and budget user at the Ministry of Communication and Information, with a specific interest in potential manipulation of progress reports concerning the 4G BTS BAKTI project. Following his initial questioning, Johnny G Plate affirmed his thorough and responsible responses and expressed his willingness to undergo further questioning if deemed necessary by Kejagung investigators. The ongoing investigation into the alleged corruption case linked to the 4G BTS BAKTI project at the Ministry of Communication and Information aims to ascertain any breaches of regulations by the Minister and to elucidate the connection between his brother’s benefits and his official capacity.
