Demee Bassett was a vibrant and adventurous young woman who loved the outdoors. Hailing from Dawson Creek, she completed her secondary education at DCSS South Peace Campus in 2015 and has recently relocated to Bluffton, Alberta.
On March 25th, accompanied by her partner and two acquaintances, she went snowmobiling along the Blindman River in the vicinity of Township Road 441 and Range Road 15, northeast of Rimbey, Alberta.

Tragically, she struck a long, intertwined steel cable extending across the river several feet off the ground. The cable was not easily visible and caught Demee off guard, causing severe injuries.

The accident occurred around 4:30 pm, and the Rimbey RCMP was called to the scene about 80 kilometers southwest of Edmonton. Demee was airlifted via STARS to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton.
Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, she succumbed to her injuries. Demee’s funeral was scheduled in Arras on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 2:00 pm.
