Ryan Peterson Obituary: A man from Holladay, aged 50, was buried in the Snow after a roof avalanche in Brighton.
According to the Unified Police, Ryan Peterson was likely attempting to remove Snow from a roof close to Brighton Loop Road last Monday when an avalanche occurred, resulting in his burial beneath it.

On April 28th, 1972, Ryan Peterson was born in Bountiful, Utah. Unfortunately, on April 17th, 2023, he passed away while removing Snow from the roof of a family cabin on the Brighton Loop.
He is survived by his mother, Karen, his wife, Coco, and his seven children: Mia, Braden, Tessa, Tyler, Ellie, Jack, Skylar, Emma, and Cate, as well as his two dogs, Ned and Red.
During his childhood, Ryan Peterson lived in the Indian Springs “Compound,” As he got older, he relocated to the Oak Hills region of Salt Lake City.
He attended several schools, including Carden Memorial, Clayton Jr, East High, University of Utah, and MIT, where he earned a Master’s in Real Estate Development.
Ryan had a passion for competition and was always eager to embark on new adventures, such as scaling the Grand Teton or navigating the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.
Peterson cherished his friendships and considered them one of his top priorities. He possessed diverse interests and was renowned for his remarkable aptitude and knowledge retention.

Ryan was married to Jennifer Thompson, with whom he had two children, Ellie and Skylar. Following the death of Jennifer, he formed a loving relationship with Coco Warner.
The funeral ceremony for Ryan Peterson is scheduled to take place at 10:00 am tomorrow, Monday, April 24th, at the Holladay 14th Ward, located at 4917 S. Viewmont Street in Holladay, Utah. After the service, the interment will occur at Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.

Peterson’s family kindly request his friends, relatives and colleagues to donate to the Carden Memorial Foundation instead of sending flowers.

Town of Brighton’s Statement after Peterson Died after being buried in Snow
According to information provided by Police and locals in the area, Peterson went to a cabin his family owns to evaluate the snow conditions. No one was around to help when Snow collapsed on him.
John Gerritsen indicated where Peterson was likely buried in Snow and reportedly stated that Peterson must have been hit there.
Police were requested on Tuesday to perform a welfare check at Peterson’s residence when he couldn’t be reached, and unfortunately, his lifeless body was discovered in the Snow.

After the incident, the Town of Brighton offered their sympathies to Peterson’s family and imparted the subsequent suggestions to their residents:
- Being on the roof is unsafe, so please avoid going up there.
- At this stage, letting the Snowmelt itself is advisable as it would be safer than attempting to clear it out.
- If you observe any bending in your roof beams or broken roof joints, it is highly recommended to inform a skilled roofer immediately.
- It is essential to ensure that children and pets are not allowed near regions on or surrounding roofs.
Due to the unprecedented snow season experienced by Utah this winter, residents are being cautioned about the risks associated with roof avalanches.
