Shakur has an elder stepbrother, Mopreme “Komani” Shakur, and a two-year-old half-sister, Sekyiwa Shakur.
Shakur’s parents, Afeni Shakur (born Alice Faye Williams in North Carolina) and Billy Garland, were Black Panther Party members in New York in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
His mother was prosecuted in New York City as part of the Panther 21 criminal trial a month before Shakur was born. She was found not guilty of more than 150 offenses.
